Torquay United head coach Gary Owers will hope to unearth one or two potential signings from a ‘trial match’ at Plainmoor this morning.
In the wake of relegation to the National League South the Gulls’ boss has invited a reported 20-plus players who are available at various clubs this summer to show off their paces. At the same time Owers must wait while his retained-list decisions take effect.
Owers offered six players, including ‘ever-present’ duo Luke Young and Sean McGinty, new deals immediately after Saturday’s last-day 1-1 draw with Ebbsfleet United. There has already been speculation linking former Plymouth Argyle youngster Young, now 25 and United’s two-time Player Of The Year, with a possible move to League Two Yeovil Town.
Owers is also trying to keep goalkeeper Vincent Dorel, left-back Liam Davis and strikers Ruairi Keating and Brett Williams, along with under-contract striker Jamie Reid.
