Manager Gary Johnson admitted: “Seven defeats is very poor, and we are in trouble” after his Torquay United side had soaked up a 6-2 Boxing Day hammering at the hands of his old club Yeovil Town in pouring rain at Huish Park.

At the scene of so many of Johnson’s past triumphs with the Glovers, Torquay – they were 3-0 down in the first 15 minutes – suffered their seventh successive league defeat, in a spell which has seen them concede 22 goals.

“The boys were absolutely and totally second-best today in all areas,” said Johnson as nearly a thousand drenched Gulls fans in a 5,066 crowd headed back to South Devon.
