Devon Live report that Torquay United’s owners Riviera Stadium Ltd pumped nearly £300,000 into the club during the first six months of their ownership – on top of the £120,000 they had already lent to the previous board a year before.

The figures, revealed in the Gulls’ latest balance-sheet, show how RSL’s boss and United chairman Clarke Osborne has taken over from former owner Thea Bristow as the Gulls’s new ‘chequebook’.

The accounts cover the year ending June 2017, when the club pulled off a second ‘Great Escape’ from relegation and stayed in the Premier division National League under player-manager Kevin Nicholson.

It will be another 12 months before we know how much more investment Osborne, who recently launched his drive to build a new-stadium complex in Torquay, sanctioned last season.

The balance-sheet for 2016-17 will be presented to shareholders at next Wednesday’s annual meeting at Plainmoor.
