Torquay United’s retained list will be announced on Saturday, and not Monday as stated by head coach Gary Owers after Tuesday’s match.
Owers is bringing forward the announcement to better suit everyone.
“That’s been fast-tracked to Saturday now,” said Owers at his weekly press call. “By six o’clock it should be all done and dusted, everyone will know.”
“The reason it is going to come on Saturday now is because some people have indicated that they can’t be available for the meetings on Monday. I don’t want to split the meetings, I want them done all in one hit. I have agreed and the players have agreed with me that they are happy to meet us on Saturday. I gave them the option, I didn’t just want to get involved in speaking to half on Saturday and half on Monday.”
Owers is already planning his squad for next season and has begun talks with potential signings.
“I’ve had an indication – some of the players I am speaking to are involved in other things. I have to wait until that’s all over, for obvious reasons. The lads I am speaking to are available.”
The planning stage for next season will be thorough according to the gaffer.
“It’s constant at the minute, speaking to players. I’m in discussions here – potentially there are one or two agreements verbally agreed but you have to finalize everything. There’ll be a procedure for the signing of players this [coming] season. The players I am committing to, certain things will have to be completed first – medicals. I can’t make any mistakes, or very, very few.”
