While the rest of his Torquay United teammates were forced to kick their heels over the weekend, winger Jake Gosling helped Gibraltar to a 1-0 home win over Latvia, only their second-ever international victory.
Gosling qualifies for Gibraltar through his father and he was winning his 12th cap. An 88th minute goal by Notts County’s Liam Walker sparked the celebrations, with Gosling reporting: “We have been playing our home (tournament) matches in Portugal, so to win in a stadium on home soil was extra special.
“It is always special to play for my country at such a high level.”
He told United’s website: “I thought we matched Latvia, if not were a little bit better than them. It was a really good day for the nation.”
