Micky Mellon might have to consider lacing up his boots again, so bad is Tranmere’s midfield crisis.
Rovers were already without Jeff Hughes and Mitch Duggan for their FA Cup defeat to Peterborough on Wednesday.
But things went from bad to worse when Jay Harris was sent off and Connor Jennings picked up a fifth caution of the season, meaning both will be suspended for Saturday’s trip to Gateshead.
And that was not the end of the bad luck. Ollie Norburn then limped off in the second half thanks to a tweaked quad muscle and is a major doubt.
It leaves Mellon with no central midfielders available, as James Wallace and Jake Kirby are still on their comeback from injury.
“We are struggling now,” he manager said. “We tried to protect a few people against Peterborough.
“It’s really turned out to be a bit of nightmare in the end.
“We’re going to be hamstrung by injuries and suspensions.
“We were having a bit of a head count before the game. Now we’ll be having another one.”
