Tranmere Rovers have completed the signing of AFC Fylde goalkeeper Rhys Taylor on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old began his career at Chelsea, coming through the Academy ranks and then spending five years as a professional at Stamford Bridge. Hailing from Port Talbot, he also progressed through the young Wales national teams, earning caps at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 levels.

During his time with The Blues, Taylor gained senior experience on loan with Football League clubs Crewe Alexandra and Rotherham United. After leaving Chelsea, the shot-stopper moved on to brief spells with Southend United and Preston North End before a two-and-a-half year stint with Macclesfield Town where he made more than 100 appearances.

A move to Newport County followed before joining Wrexham on loan in 2015-16. In the summer of 2016, Taylor teamed up with AFC Fylde and played a big part in helping The Coasters to promotion from the National League North last season and he has made 10 appearances in the National League for them this term.
