Tributes have been pouring in following the passing of former Football League midfielder Kieron Durkan at just 44 years of age.
The Chester native made the grade at Wrexham, even scoring for the Dragons against Manchester United at Old Trafford in an FA Cup fourth round tie in January 1995. That game ended in a 5-2 loss but Durkan had enjoyed an unforgettable moment, beating Peter Schmeichel at the Stretford End to put Wrexham ahead.
Durkan had also scored in the previous round as Wrexham put out another top-flight team in Ipswich Town.
He went on to spend two years at Stockport County, during which time the Hatters famously reached the League Cup semi-finals under Dave Jones in 1997. Durkan made over a century of appearances for Macclesfield Town from 1998 to 2001, also representing York City (loan), Rochdale and Swansea City before moving into non-league football.
The one-time Irish Under-21 international played for Caernarfon Town, Runcorn FC Halton, Leek Town and Cefn Druids.
