Gainsborough Trinity have signed former Sheffield United goalkeeper George Willis from league rivals Stalybridge Celtic.

The 21-year-old England under-19 international was released by League One side Sheffield United at the end of last season and joined Stalybridge in August.

Willis, who was a regular on the bench for the Blades the previous season and is a product of Sheffield United’s academy, spent time on loan with National League North side Alfreton Town in 2014/15.

Willis then went on loan to Matlock Town on October 3rd 2015 and then extended his loan deal until the end of last season.

The stopper impressed at the Autoworld Arena and was a near ever-present for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit during his stints there throughout the campaign.
