Gainsborough Trinity boss, Dominic Roma has bolstered his attacking options ahead of the 2016/17 season with the acquisition of Ashley Worsfold from Buxton.
The former Alfreton and Harrogate hitman, began his career at Sheffield Wednesday before moving into the non-league game at Goole, and then on to a spell at Parkgate where he scored regularly, attracting the attention of clubs higher up the pyramid.
An injury halted the now 25 year olds’ progress after he had netted 16 goals for Harrogate in the 2013/14 season, topping the scoring charts at the CNG Stadium.
A broken leg kept him out of the side until the New Year of the 14/15 season, yet despite being offered the chance to return for pre-season training the following year, Ashley opted for a move to Buxton, where he was once again amongst the goals, grabbing a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Ilkeston FC in April and twice in the sides’ 3-2 defeat to Marine.
Roma was obviously delighted to announce the signing saying: “Ash is a powerful front runner, who has a great work ethic and an eye for goal. I am really pleased to bring him to the club and with a good pre-season with us, I’m sure he’ll be ready to hit the ground running.”
The new man had this to say on his return to the National League North:
“I am excited to join Gainsborough and help the team progress. I have been very impressed with what the manager has had to say about things and the professional approach to how things are going to be done this season. I can’t wait to get started!”
