Truro City FC are a step closer towards securing a new home stadium as Cornwall Council agreed to provide £3million for the project.

The Stadium for Cornwall plans would see the new ground constructed on a site close to Threemilestone in Kenwyn. It would serve as the home venue for Truro City of the Vanarama National League South, as well as the Cornish pirates rugby union team.

Truro and Penwith College would also benefit through its kitchen and hospitality training facilities, while a health and fitness centre is also included in the plans, alongside conference facilities. The stadium partners had asked Cornwall Council earlier this year for help in raising the final £6m of the £14.3m project.

The council said it would consider providing £3m. It is hoped that the remaining funds will come from central government, which would honour a commitment made by David Cameron, the former Prime Minister.
