Assistant manager Micky Cummins has insisted that though York City are “riding on the crest of a big wave” they cannot afford to get complacent.

National League North leaders York host Boston United tonight (7.45pm) with the chance to go eight points clear at the top.

But Cummins believes the team – now 23 games unbeaten since the second game of pre-season – have a target on their backs.

The latest in this outstanding run was a 1-0 win at promotion rivals Chester, after which boss Steve Watson said there might be a couple of injuries to look at.

Cummins reports the side are “looking okay” – and says if he were still playing, he would want to push through any niggles to avoid missing out.

He said: “When we play Saturday to Saturday, it’s a long week.

“We get our work done in the week but when you’re on the crest of that wave, you want the games coming.”
