Port Vale boss John Askey says he’s not bothered about criticism on social media and believes Ben Whitfield’s move to Torquay ‘is best for all parties’.
Whitfield joined the National League side on a free transfer on Tuesday after the final 12 months of his contract were cancelled by mutual consent.
The player’s agent Dan Fletcher commented on Twitter after the deal was done, saying he was delighted to have negotiated the deal.
He added: “Sometimes you have to do everything you can to get a player away from a manager, even if that means taking a step back to go several steps forward. Our clients will always come first.”
Askey was asked about Whitfield’s exit by BBC Radio Stoke’s Phil Bowers.
Asked if that was a difficult decision, the manager said: “Not really no, it was quite easy.”
