Jamie Vermiglio says there is no bigger start than York City as the new Chorley boss builds up to his first season in charge of the Magpies.

The 36-year-old’s reign started last night in a 5-0 friendly win at near neighbours Euxton Villa. But while fans got a glimpse of Chorley’s new signings at the West Lancashire League side the real test starts on August 4 when the Magpies start their National League North campaign against the Minstermen at Victory Park.

The new boss, who took over from Matt Jansen on the eve of pre-season, is relishing trying to build on last season’s play-off defeat and is looking to add more goals to a side that had the second meanest defence in the division last year.

He said: “York City are as big as they come. We want to be up there battling for promotion again and I’m looking forward to it.

“Last season people knew what they were going to get from us. Strong, resolute but we were short on goals.

“But this year we have recruited some exciting attacking players like Wes Fletcher, Louis Almond and Elliot Newby.”
