Jim Gannon has signed an eighteen month contract to make a shock return to former club Stockport County.
The Northwich Victoria boss made 383 appearances for the Hatters between 1990 and 2000.
He also went on to have two separate spells as manager of the club between 2005 and 2009 and 2011 and 2013.
Now he returns to the club and takes over a side sat eighth in the Vanarama National League North table but are currently thirteen points behind fifth placed Nuneaton Town.
A statement released on the Hatters website on Monday night confirmed the decision.
It read “The decision to appoint Jim was taken unanimously by the Board of Directors and the club’s Senior Advisors, following the resignation of Neil Young last week.
Details of Jim’s backroom team are still being finalised, but a full statement will be available via the club’s website tomorrow.
Jim, 47, led the Hatters to promotion during his first spell in charge of the club in 2008, winning the League Two Play Off Final against Rochdale at Wembley.
Jim has had a highly successful spell as manager of Northwich Victoria since December 2013, and leaves the Cheshire side second in the EvoStik NPL Division One North following a successful run to the second round proper of the FA Cup”
Congleton will provide the Hatters’ first opponents of Gannon’s third managerial spell with the Edgeley Park club, with County facing the NWCFL club in a Cheshire Senior Cup tie on Tuesday night.
