“They have let themselves down and let the supporters down” was Gary Waddock’s damning verdict of his Aldershot Town squad after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to FC Halifax Town.
The Shots, suffering with an injury and illness hit squad, were far from their best but might have nicked a goalless draw had it not been for a goalkeeping error just before half-time.
Lewis Ward, on loan from Reading, was always going to get to a loose ball before Halifax’s Scott McManus, however the goalkeeper miss-hit his attempted clearance, giving McManus the easiest of tap ins.
Aldershot dominated the possession, especially in the Halifax final third, but couldn’t turn it into shots on target, never mind goals.
And Waddock was far from happy with the performance.
“It wasn’t good enough. We have done really, really well recently but in this game we didn’t and we were very disappointing throughout,” he said.
“It was poor goal to concede and we didn’t work their goalkeeper at all. They had a game plan and credit to them, they stuck to that and got the result.”
