Walton Casuals assistant manager Chris Winton has left the club to take up the same role at St Albans City.

He joined the Casuals alongside manager Steve Conroy in the summer, having had a successful season as a pair with Kings Langley last year.

He was approached in the week, and having already turned down an approach for a high-profile job back in September in order to stay at the club, he has now decided that this is the right move for him at this stage of his career, and with a young family that he spends increasing amounts of time away from.

Winton said: “I’d like to place on record my sincere gratitude and thanks to Walton Casuals FC for an extremely enjoyable, if somewhat brief, time with the club. I have made some friends for life and I wish them nothing but success and fortune going forward.

“The decision to leave has been a tough one, as I truly believe the club has something special in progress. However, travelling the 160-mile round trip various times a week, getting in after midnight more often than not, has taken its toll on family life – I need to put my wife and young son first.”
