New Slimbridge AFC manager Freddy Ward has named Lee Driver-Dickerson as his number two for the upcoming 2017-18 EVO-STIK League South season.
Driver-Dickerson was unveiled on Tuesday at Thornhill Park after standing down at Frampton United at the end of last season after more than a decade as player-manager of the Gloucestershire County League club.
The Swans are now looking to seeing Ward and their new assistant manager start work on improving on last season’s third from bottom finish when the new EVO-STIK League South West campaign kicks off on Saturday 12 August.
The pair will be aided by newly appointed player-coach Lee Smith and Slimbridge chairman Barry Gay told supporters: “I am delighted that Lee has decided to join us – he has done a great job at Frampton over the past few season. He is a great motivator, and a winner, and he will be a real asset to Freddy as we approach the start of pre-season training next week.”
In a statement announcing his new number two’s arrival, Ward told fans he was looking forward to working with someone who shared his views on the game and coaching.
Ward said: “I’m very pleased to have him aboard. Lee has similar thinking to me on how to get the best out of players. Lee is a great guy – I think the club needs a new face about the place and I’m sure the players will take to him straight away.”
Pre-season training starts next Tuesday and Ward added: “I’m looking forward to having him with us, and hopefully together we can push the club forward.”
