Washington United have formed a new team to compete in the TWR Wearside League next season.

The club have applied with the hope of being accepted into Division One, as they look to bring Saturday afternoon football back to the town.

Club secretary Mick Trainer and head coach Andy Taylor had this to say on the announcement: “We are very excited as a club to be able to announce this. Washington has missed having a team to go and watch locally on a Saturday afternoon, and we welcome the ambitious team getting on board with the club.

“We think this will be an exciting addition to the club as we move forward with our ambitious plans. This will also provide a pathway in the club for our players to play, from kids to adults in the same club. This is our second men’s team in the club, showing how strong we are in building a platform for our players to progress.

“Exciting times ahead and we look forward to being able to watch our local team on a Saturday afternoon.”
