Defender Charlie Wassmer is going out on loan in a bid to get fit enough to take his place in Alan Dowson’s Woking side, report Surrey Live.

The 27-year-old made a high-profile switch from Hampton & Richmond in the summer, but a groin injury has kept him sidelined up until the moment he appeared for the final few minutes of the Cards’ 1-1 draw with Concord Rangers last weekend.

As the Cards prepare to host Dulwich Hamlet in the National League South on Saturday (September 15), boss Dowson revealed he will send Wassmer to a ‘local club’ to gain match time.

“I think I was kidding myself to think Wassmer could come straight in after having no pre-season whatsoever and not playing except in the U23s,” admitted Dowson.

“He needs games and I hope he can get away and get six or seven games under his belt and come back fit and strong for us in October and November.”
