In another tough match in the National League, it was Danny Rowe who impressed again for Macclesfield Town on Boxing Day, despite the game ending in a 1-0 defeat for hosts Tranmere.

There was very little to choose between the two sides at Prenton Park, and chances came few and far between for both teams.

It was Rowe who arguably had the best scoring opportunity of the game, as he whipped the ball from Steve McNulty in the Tranmere box, before putting the ball on the wrong side of the post from close range.

Assistant manager Steve Watson, who spoke to the club’s media after the game, picked up on Rowe’s chance, saying: “Some of the best players in the world have missed good chances, it’s not something where they can say they’ve scored every single one.

“It was just one of those things, Rowey doesn’t seem to trust his right foot, he’s a left footed player and he wanted to get it back onto his strong side and he probably just narrowed the angle a bit when he did it, but the lads have put in such a shift today against a very good Tranmere side and came away with nothing.

“I feel for the lads, I feel for the staff and everyone involved in the club, as well as the supporters who have come over again and given us some great support”.
