Steve Watson admits the FA Cup draw will be a tricky fixture for Macclesfield Town, but believes that Macclesfield can put on a good show in the First Round.

The Silkmen have been drawn away from home against League One side Walsall.

Speaking to, Watson said:“We were hoping we’d get a team where we’d have a much better chance of getting through, but there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t go there and get a result.

“It’s a cup game, I’ve seen it happen a lot of times – I’ve been on the end of cup upsets and I’ve been on the good side of cup upsets so there’s no reason why we couldn’t go to Walsall and give a good account of ourselves. It’ll be very tough because they are a very good side”.

No matter the result on the day, Watson believes that the game will be a very good test for the players, with Walsall being one of the toughest teams the Silkmen have faced to date this season.

“It shows the lads where they want to be, where they need to be and hopefully it’ll show how far we’ve come when we put a good performance on there”.

Quietly though, Watson is hopeful for a cup upset in the next round, something which he has seen all too often in the game.

“We’ve got a lot of games between now and then so we won’t even be thinking about the FA Cup until the week before the Walsall game, but it’s a good yardstick for the lads to go and see where they’re at”.
