Macclesfield Town assistant manager Steve Watson has spoken of his delight at the Silkmen’s impressive goal tally to date this season, as they scored another three against Southport on Tuesday night.
Speaking to MTFC.co.uk, Watson admitted that the loss of Kristian Dennis had hurt Macclesfield’s goal threat, but is pleased to see other players stepping up so far this season.
“We’ll never use it as an excuse but everybody knows that there’s restrictions and everyone knows that we can’t just go out and buy a top striker.
“We said to the boys that they need to step up to the plate and to be fair everybody that you want to chip in with the goals has done which is good to see.”
The Silkmen now have eight goals from the opening four games of the season, which has also helped secure three wins in the National League, and Watson is very pleased with the strong start Macc have had to the season.
“It’s not a bad place to be in at all, and even in the game we didn’t win we felt we should have definitely got something out of it against a team who will be right up there at the end of the season.
“All we can do now is make sure everybody’s fine, and from the looks of things it looks like everyone came through unscathed, which is a big thing for us.”
Macclesfield’s next fixture sees the Silkmen travelling to Sutton, where they will be hoping to earn their fourth win of the season.
