The Liverpool Echo report that Liam Watson believes it would be a ‘fairytale’ if Southport can land an FA Cup third round showdown with Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

The Sandgrounders drew 1-1 with Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Sunday with the second-round replay now scheduled for Monday 17th December.

Originally set for next Tuesday, the clash was moved due to BT Sport’s decision to televise the fixture live.

League Two Rovers – who ply their trade two steps above Southport – took an early lead at the weekend through Jonny Smith before Brad Bauress delivered a stunning 30-yard equaliser with 20 minutes remaining.

“We were the stronger of the two teams in the second-half,” Watson told the ECHO.

“If anyone was going to win it was going to be us but we know it’ll be a tougher game at Southport than it was at Tranmere.”
