Looking ahead to tonight’s Buildbase FA Trophy quarter final replay against Dulwich Hamlet, Macclesfield Town assistant manager Steve Watson is hoping for a positive reaction from the players.
The Silkmen go into the game following a 3-0 loss to Forest Green Rovers at the weekend, but Watson believes that the result can help drive the Silkmen to victory tonight.
“You don’t get many chances to get this close to playing at Wembley and to play in a final, so there’s the motivation on its own, and the lads will be desperate to put Saturday right as well so we’re hoping for a really positive reaction”.
Dulwich have surprised many in the competition so far this year, and their 5-2 hammering over Braintree to reach the quarter finals has been one of the stand out games to date in the FA Trophy.
After fighting back to earn a replay in the initial fixture, Watson admits that the team cannot underestimate their opponents tonight.
“I was impressed with them; we’d seen little bits of them on TV but we hadn’t seen a lot, and they were decent. They’ve got some good athletes, some good footballers, and they caused us some problems. We certainly won’t be taking them lightly, we’ll be fully focused as we would be with any other team”.
