Homeless Basingstoke Town have an important date tomorrow, when ground grading is scheduled to take place at Winklebury Football Complex.

The Southern League Division One South club, currently sharing with Winchester City, say they are fully committed to embracing the local community.

True to their promise, a women’s team has already been formed and playing in the Hampshire County League Division Three.

They are being coached by community club chairman and former Basingstoke manager Terry Brown. He is also liaising with Winklebury Wizards, who run a number of under-age teams for boys and girls.

Plans are also being made to engage with local businesses, local schools and Winklebury youth project.

Vice-chairman Kevin White said: “We are edging closer to bringing football back to Basingstoke, specifically our new home in Winklebury, which is going to be fantastic.”
