The sun is shining and the Malvern Town players are returning to training this week as they look forward to some April action, including the Buildbase FA Vase fourth round clash with Congleton Town on April 17th.

“The past year has certainly been frustrating at times,” said Jay Sauntson on reflection. “We had a taste of normality for a few months towards the end of last year and then it was taken away again as the second wave came.”

“I am just buzzing now that restrictions are starting to be lifted and we can see some light at the end of the tunnel. I can’t wait to step over the white line again.

“I’ve been getting some good miles into the legs during the latest lockdown. I’ve found it helps if I set myself targets to run a certain distance over a month, as it’s good to have something to aim for.

“A lot of the lads have been doing the same and showing great commitment. The way it’s been going we could set up our own Malvern running club!

“To see the lads again is great. We’ve got a good group here and to have the banter and craic back with them will give us all a boost.

“Having the FA Vase tie coming up soon has given us a focus. Again, we’re up against higher-level opponents, but it is this kind of test that we relish and savour.

“We always seem to raise our game against better quality opponents and we will be as positive as ever going to Congleton and leave nothing out there, as we have done in each of the previous rounds.

“Lee and Dene have put together a great plan, and now we are able to get back together, we can really work hard on it so that we are as well prepared as possible for the challenge we face. This is a chance to make history for the club and we can’t wait for the game to come around.

“We will be doing everything possible to give the fans something to really cheer about.”
