Gateshead’s Elliot Forbes admits returning to first-team action was bittersweet in the wake of Tuesday’s FA Trophy exit to Farsley Celtic.

The visitors progressed into the third round of the Trophy, courtesy of Jimmy Spencer’s header in the closing stages.

“It’s depleting,” Forbes commented after the 3-2 defeat. “We go into every game wanting to win, even if it’s not a league match, so it’s really disappointing.”

“We’ve had a conversation in the changing rooms, we agree we need to do a bit better defensively, especially at set-pieces.

“It’s difficult to not let frustration get the better of us, especially with us conceding so late on, but we’ll burn that fuel in training and improve.”
