West Didsbury & Chorlton are have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Aaron Ashley from Bacup Borough.
Steve Settle has moved quickly to sign the highly rated young goalkeeper from the Lancashire based NWCFL First Division side after a string of impressive displays.
Settle spoke of the transfer: “We’re pleased to get Aaron on board. We’ve been looking to strengthen the team in a number of areas. We are now starting to think about next season. However, rather than wait until the end of the season myself, Stephen Brockley, Steve Eckersley and Rob Madden have sat down and thought about bringing in a couple of lads to get them embedded in early to hit the ground running.”
Setts was in the stands at Cheadle Town last weekend where he saw Ashley pulled off a string of good saves on his way to a clean sheet as Bacup ended a run 10 games without a win to beat in form Cheadle 1-0. “We’ve watched him play a couple of times. I went to watch him against Cheadle last Saturday and he was man of the match and pulled off three or four great saves. He’s a young lad and there’s lots and lots of potential there. He’s someone we obviously want and we’re dead pleased that Aaron has signed with West.”
Ashley had boasted a 100% record for Bacup this season appearing in every single game having made 35 appearances for the Borough. Ashley spent last season playing at both Daisy Hill and Stockport Town making 15 appearances for the two sides following 9 appearances for Daisy Hill in 2014/15; his first season in the NWCFL.
Club Secretary Rob McKay passed on his thanks to Bacup for their handling of the transfer: “I’d like to pass my thanks on to Bacup Borough, and in particular Brent Peters, for their professionalism in completing the transfer.”
West fans will be able to see Ashley in action for the first time on Saturday 11th March, 3pm KO, when they face Barnton at The Hinchcliffe Holmes Stadium.
