West Ham United have given their backing to Hornchurch in the club’s FA Trophy bid this season.
The Isthmian Premier Division side are the lowest-ranked of the remaining eight teams in the competition.
Mark Stimson’s team are set to play Darlington away at the end of this month, and are bidding to raise funds to help cover the £2,500 cost of travel and hotel rooms when they travel to the North East.
West Ham joint-chairman David Sullivan, who has made ‘a sizeable donation’ to Hornchurch, told the Hammers’ website:
“I grew up in Hornchurch and back then the local football club was in the Athenian League, and I remember going down to watch them play when I was a boy.
“As well as being a West Ham fan since I was 11, I have always been a big football supporter and someone who wants to help local clubs where I can, and I know many of my fellow Hammers feel likewise and went to watch their local non-league teams when the lockdown restrictions were lifted last year.”
