Weymouth chairman Ian White has cast doubt on the Terras’ planned National League opener at Altrincham on Saturday, October 3.

Brian Stock’s men are due to travel to fellow promoted side Altrincham, despite local lockdowns remaining in force for Trafford and Greater Manchester.

With the UK’s Covid-19 alert level up to four, there is widespread expectation the National League campaign will be affected.

Adding to those concerns, this morning cabinet office minister Michael Gove revealed plans for up to 1,000 fans to return to stadiums in elite sports had been iced.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent Sport, White admitted he had reservations over the season commencing.

He said: “We’re going to find it difficult. We probably, may be, all right for a couple of months.

“Unless we get some help from somewhere else, I don’t think it’s plausible to start.”
