Chesterfield manager James Rowe says he will not be happy simply to get in the play-offs this season.

The Spireites are currently 13th in the National League following a resurgence, and are six points outside the play-offs, with games in hand on every side above them.

Last night saw a 1-0 win at home to Altrincham, with Rowe praising the ‘masses and masses’ of character shown by his team.

On their prospects of being in the promotion mix come the end of the season, he told the club’s website:

“Of course, we are delighted again. We are climbing slowly and shifting in the right direction, but what is the point in getting the play-offs if you can’t get promoted?

“It’s about promotion, not play-offs.”
