Experienced midfielder Danny Whitaker is delighted to have signed a new deal with Macclesfield Town.
The 35-year-old is the latest player to commit his future to the club for the 2016/2017 season, in what will be his eighth season at the club across two spells.
Speaking to MTFC.co.uk, Whitaker said: “I’m delighted to get it sorted, I’ve been training with the lads for a few days and we were just trying get things over the line and we did in the end so I’m delighted.
“I spoke to the gaffer a few times over the summer, obviously I’ve been away for a few weeks and everyone else has so it just took its time.”
Whitaker who has played in over 300 games for Macclesfield, was one of 22 players who played in the Silkmen’s opening pre-season game away at Buxton – in a game which the hosts won 2-0:
“It’s pre-season at the end of the day it’s all about fitness and just getting match sharp again, you don’t want to lose games but sometimes you do, it’s just about getting through them without getting injured,” he explained.
Six trialists were a part of the team away at Buxton and Whitaker believes more game time is needed to make a judgement on those players:
“Some trialists have looked okay, but it’s difficult in training we need to see more of them in game situations – where you can judge them a little bit better.”
