Evo-Stik League club Whitby Town have beaten a number of clubs to complete the signing of former Hartlepool United and Bristol Rovers winger Andy Monkhouse.

The thirty six years becomes Chris Hardy’s first signing of the summer and joins the Seasiders after a spell with Vanarama National League club Alfreton Town.

Monkhouse comes with great experience, having made over 400 Football League appearances and has played for the likes of Rotherham United, Swindon Town and Grimsby Town during a career that now spans nineteen years.

It was during his spells with Bristol Rovers and Grimsby Town that Monkhouse achieved a notable feat.

Twelve months after helping Rovers to promotion into the Football League, he repeated the trick with the Mariners, with both promotions coming via the National League promotion final.

Monkhouse spent last season with National League North club Alfreton Town, making fifty appearances and scoring six goals for the Reds.

He was released at the end of last season and now joins the Seasiders, as they look to improve on last season’s sixth place finish.

That left them just one place and two points outside of the play-off places.

Monkhouse’s signature will be seen as a signal of intent from manager Chris Hardy, as he looks to replace last season’s top goalscorer Dale Hopson after the midfielder joined Blyth Spartans last week.
