The Southern Combination League Division One side Wick FC have announced the signing of former Premier League striker Marcus Bent, pending international clearance.
Bent, who enjoyed a career spanning 574 games and 113 goals and one England Under 21 cap, has agreed to become involved at Crabtree Park due to a long standing friendship with new Wickers chairman Rodney Lampton and was impressed with the facilities on offer and those involved with the running of the club.
Although not expected to be donning the boots every Saturday afternoon, Bent has agreed to be of help and advice to manager Lee Baldwin alongside any playing commitments to push the club as high up the footballing ladder as is possible.
Bent will look to use the club as a base for his soccer schools in the near future and also bring to the club the help and experience of a number of ex Premier League players as Wick look to move up the divisions to become one of the biggest non-league clubs in the area.
Lampton is pleased to get Bent on board and having sold his vision of where the club is heading, Bent was only too happy to get involved.
