A new head of academy recruitment has been appointed at Chesterfield to replace Steve Hancock, who has left the club to take up a similar role at Sheffield United.

Danny Wilson has been brought in to head the recruitment for the academy after working on recruitment for Manchester United in recent years.

Academy manager Matt Whitehouse said: “Danny’s knowledge of local players is fantastic and he shares our positive vision for what we are seeking to achieve within the academy in the coming years.

“In his interview he impressed us with his knowledge, experience and passion and we are delighted to have brought him in. We welcome Danny to our team and we are excited to see what he can bring to the academy to help take it forward.

“On behalf of the academy, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Steve all the best in his new role and thank him for his contribution.

“He has helped to improve our recruitment department and played a key role in various functions. His work with the ETC this past couple of years has been a big help for the academy and the Community Trust.”
