Matty Holmes described as “absolutely laughable” talk of Wimborne Town mounting a charge for the Southern League South play-offs, the Daily Echo report.

Magpies are eight points behind fifth-place Harrow Borough having secured four points against promotion-chasers Taunton and Met Police in their past two outings.

This sparked whispers of a play-off push on social media but boss Holmes was quick to quash excitement regarding a potential surge.

Holmes told the Daily Echo: “It is an absolutely laughable statement to make. “One of our people at the club said ‘it is eight points to fifth place’, but I said ‘no, that is not the right mentality.’

“It is good to be thinking like that but we are also eight points away from the bottom three and have been in that area for too long.

“To talk about the play-offs is absolute nonsense. We are concentrating on getting the points tally we need to meet our objectives. The job description at the start of the season was to stay up.”
