Promotion-chasing Wingate & Finchley have honoured their stars of a record-breaking season as they prepare for the Ryman Premier’s promotion play-offs.
The Blues, who booked a trip to runners-up Bognor Regis Town in the semi-finals on Thursday night after posting a record points total and highest-ever finishing position of fifth, clebrated their success on Saturday at their annual awards night.
After securing a shot at promotion to the highest level in the club’s history despite Saturday’s 3-0 reverse at home to Dulwich Hamlet, keeper Shane Gore was the big winner on the night with three accolades – ‘Player of the Season’, ‘Players’ Player of the Season’ and ‘Supporters’ Player of the Season’.
Reece Beckles didn’t do too badly either, collecting the club’s ‘Golden Boot’ and ‘Young Player of of the Year’ honours while Sean Cronin left for home after the event at The Maurice Rebak Stadium with the ‘Directors’ Player of the Season’ award.
Wingate & Finchley chairman Aron Sharpe, celebrating his tenth year in charge, also presented Peter Rebak with a framed collage of last August’s stadium renaming ceremony in honour of club founder Maurice Rebak. Blues stalwart Mark Felstein didn’t leave empty-handed either after he was named ‘Club Person of the Year’.
