Wingate & Finchley have announced that their stadium at Summers Lane is being renamed after Wingate FC co-founder Maurice Rebak.
Rebak, who held the position of chairman, secretary and treasurer during the club’s history, sadly passed away in February at the age of 95.
He, along with his brothers Asher and David and Frank Davis, founded the football club in 1946; the aim was to combat anti-semitism which was still prevalent after WWII, with Jewish integration through sport.
Speaking in an interview in 2010 about the history of the club he said “I was very proud to have helped found the club, which has lasted through all these years and affected the lives of so many people.
I consider it a great achievement for four ordinary young people and it could have only been attained with the unstinting help and patience of members of their families and friends.”
