After a superb season for Skelmersdale United in 2017-18, defender Josh Wardle departs the club with a move to NPL Prem side Witton Albion.

Wardle was a key member of the squad who secured a stay in the Evo-Stik League with a run of 28 consecutive starts, in which he scored three goals having joined in November. He came to the club from fellow Evo-Stik West side Kendal Town having previously had a spell with Lancaster City who he will likely reunite with this season.

He ended the season with around 150 career appearances and scooped the Manager’s Player of the Year award.

Manager Dave Powell gave his thoughts on Wardle’s exit: “I am sorry to see Josh leave the club, he was a key member of our defence last season but rather than look at the negatives of a player departing, it gives an opportunity for other players to step up into the role.”
