Workington AFC say striker Ash Kelly has suffered a major setback during his recovery from a long-term lay-off.

A reoccurrence of the injury he picked up in training a full year ago, which saw him tear his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus, as well as fracture a small bone in his knee, has lead to him being advised not to continue playing football.

The club say they will continue to support Kelly during his extended rehabilitation period.

Kelly had last month come back into light training with the first team, working with physios Ronan Irving and Caitlin Gribbon in the hope of returning to footballing action in the New Year.
