Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts has left the club to take over at Shrewsbury Town.

It brings to an end the recent speculation surrounding Ricketts, and also brings the curtain down on his short reign as Wrexham manager. The former Bolton Wanderers and Swansea City defender took over back in the summer and has led Wrexham to 3rd place in the Vanarama National League.

The 37-year-old had been strongly linked to the Shrews post of late, but only last week had said the speculation was ‘irrelevant to me,’ as no approach had been made. Wrexham announced at the weekend that Ricketts would be absent from their home FA Cup game with Newport County.

He takes over a Shrewsbury side 15th in League One, with his departure leaving a familiar feeling for Wrexham fans who saw Dean Keates leave for Walsall last season.
