James Jennings admits Wrexham fans will be gunning for revenge against Newport County and he believes the FA Cup tie is winnable, report The Leader.
Sam Ricketts’ side will entertain the Exiles in the second round, with the game due to take place over the weekend of Friday November 30.
The last meeting between the sides ended in heartbreak for Wrexham with Newport winning 2-0 in the 2013 Conference Premier play-off final at Wembley to clinch promotion to the Football League.
Jennings, who won automatic promotion from the fifth tier with Mansfield that year, knows there is a lot riding on the tie and he feels National League leaders Wrexham will be optimistic they can beat the League Two side.
“I think it’s a good tie to try and get into the third round,” said Jennings.
“Obviously it is north against south Wales, there is quite a bit of rivalry and going off what I have read a lot of fans are happy with a chance to get one over Newport from losing in the final, it is still in a lot of fans’ heads.
“I have got a good feeling from the lads, it is a game we fancy ourselves with especially being at home; you look at it and think we can potentially win.”
