Sam Ricketts revealed Manny Smith is set to see a specialist to determine the extent of his knee injury, but was pleased to add competition to his squad after unveiling new signing Jake Lawlor, report the Daily Post.

Wrexham moved back to the top of the National League on Saturday with a 2-0 win at home over Aldershot, Stuart Beavon and Jordan Maguire-Drew on target in the win, a match which highlighted the versatility in the Dragons squad.

Ricketts was without Smith after the centre-half suffered a knee injury in the Bank Holiday Monday loss at Solihull Moors, while left-back James Jennings (back) was also sidelined for the visit of the Shots.

The manager admitted he was unsure of a timescale over a possible return for Smith.

“Manny is a fantastic player, he will certainly be a loss to the club for the time he is out injured,” said Ricketts. “He had a scan, we are going to see a specialist this week and see where he is up to. It is an injury we will manage and get him back in when he is right. We don’t want to rush him but on a length of time, we are not sure on yet.”
