Dean Keates pulled no punches as he delivered a withering assessment of Wrexham’s current plight, and insisted “just hard work” was required from his charges to arrest their slump.

A 2-1 defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday saw Wrexham drop one place to 22nd and sit firmly in the relegation places as the season nears the halfway mark.

The Dragons are two points adrift of safety and head to Devon on Tuesday night for a second long away trip in succession as they take on Torquay United.

Asked how the Dragons can turn this around, Keates challenged his players to stand up and be counted, stating: “It is just hard work.

“From 18 to 18, good phases of play and we spend a lot of time on the ball but it is not getting us results.

“We need to address that and keep more clean sheets. Silly mistakes are costing us and we have got to eradicate that.”
