York City manager Steve Watson has revealed that defender David Mirfin required 31 stitches after suffering a ‘nasty’ facial injury against Nuneaton Borough last weekend.
Mirfin, who is on loan from Mansfield Town until the summer, has subsequently been ruled out of Saturday’s Vanarama National League North trip to Leamington (kick-off 3pm).
“It was a really nasty injury and he has ended up having 31 stitches inside and outside his mouth,” said Watson. “The doctors are saying he should stay away from contact this weekend. If there was contact and it opened up again, it wouldn’t heal properly.”
Mirfin was making his fifth appearance on loan for the Minstermen but was substituted with an hour gone following a clash of heads with Nuneaton defender Rhys Sharpe.
“It is a shame because David has been solid and has forged a really good partnership with Sean Newton,” Watson added. “Unfortunately, Danny Parslow still hasn’t trained since his head injury – it was more serious than we first thought – so he won’t come into contention, it will be between Hamza Bencherif, Josh Law, and Joe Tait.”
Striker Jon Parkin is back in the squad after missing last weekend’s victory with a calf strain but midfielder Simon Heslop remains sidelined following knee surgery.
