Midfielder Sean McAllister has joined York City on a month’s loan from League Two club Grimsby Town.

McAllister, 30, is a former Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers schoolboy. Born in Bolton, he began his professional career with Sheffield Wednesday.

After four years playing Championship football, in which he scored four goals in 73 games overall, he was released by the Owls and joined Shrewsbury Town in 2010.

He spent two seasons with Shrewsbury before brief spells at Port Vale and Scottish club Cowdenbeath. McAllister joined Scunthorpe United in July 2013 and was voted the club’s Player of the Year after helping the Iron win promotion to League One.

After three seasons at Scunthorpe, he joined neighbours Grimsby in summer 2016.
