Stalybridge Celtic have signed defender Josh Heaton from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North neighbours Droylsden.

Heaton is a 6`4”, 19-year-old centre-back who signed for the Bloods in the summer following his release from Sky Bet Championship side Preston North End.

Heaton signed a one-year contract with a further year’s option at Deepdale in the summer of 2015 having spent the majority of the 2014/15 season on loan at Tamworth in the National League North, where he was a regular in the heart of the Lambs defence.

The 20-year-old then spent from March 2016 until the end of the 2015/16 season on loan with then-North West Counties League Premier Division side Colne FC, who he helped to promotion to the NPL First Division North.
